Antioch High School Running Back, Najee Harris, #1 In The Country, Plays For #3 In Bay Valley League

Photo by: (Ray Chavez/Bay Area News Group)

This Season May Be The Best League Season Ever

High School football gets serious this weekend. After 5 preseason games the Bay Valley league has a full slate of games this week. I'll be in Oakley Friday to see the Falcons of Freedom host the Panthers of north Antioch. Antioch breezed through last season schedule 10-0 only to lose in the North Coast semi finals by one point. They played a tougher preseason schedule this year hoping hoping it will make them playoff tough. Even, De La Salle was on the schedule. They played the Spartans tough, last years state champion, and lost by seven. This season the defending Bay Valley Champions are listed third, behind both Pittsburg and Freedom. Also, Heritage is much better this season after Antioch blew them out by 40 in the first quarter last year. Antioch has three games in the next five against schools with perfect preseason records (5-0). This could be the best football season ever in East County. I can't wait. Go Panther's.

Leer Vineyards

Leer Vineyards, Byron

I got to the SIP & SHOP event last Saturday, too late, to get a decent parking spot. After circling the vineyard twice I got thirsty and headed to the Aloha Club (the old Bon Gustos) up the street where Byron Hwy meets Hwy 4 for a cold one. I saw the vineyard has a tasting room, gift shop and baseball field. I know they host events out there (FOREJOUR is playing for sure this Saturday) I was impressed even though I didn't get out of the car. It looks like a real winery and it's in Byron (not too far away). I find myself going out (to Brentwood) more and more often.
