The Girls of Oktoberfest @ Providence in Oakley

Last Saturday Providence Bar & Eatery in Oakley put on quite an OKTOBERFEST celebration. Several microbreweries poured sample beers. We tasted grapefruit and apple flavored beer for the first time and liked them. We learned "prost" is German for "cheers." We all enjoyed soft pretzels and brat sandwiches, with sauerkraut, served on a soft pretzel roll. We encourage Kim (center in the above photo) and David, owners of the restaurant, to bring these "brat sliders" back. Why not do this monthly? I love special events. More phrases for Oktoberfest?

Lady Washington in Antioch

Eloine Chapman, a local designer, photographer and pet lover was drawn to the Antioch marina to take this gorgeous photo of the Lady Washington. I want to go on a photo safari with you, Eloine, thanks.

Frank Beede, Antioch High School/Seattle Seahawk Football Player, inducted into the Antioch Sports Legends Museum

The name Beede is synonymous with the city of Antioch. There is Beede Auditorium, Beede Park, Beede Way and Beede Lumber Yard. It’s hard to imagine a family history with a stronger bond to Antioch.

That’s a large legacy to live up to, but 6-foot-4, 296-pound Frank McNulty Beede III was up for the challenge.

Antioch High School Panther Football is 8-0

No this is not turning into a sports blog. But, THIS IS one of Antioch High School's best football teams ever and making history every week. The Antioch Sports Legends Museum has inducted three football teams (1) 1945-46; (2) 1966-67; (3) 1977-78. With two more wins, one against Deer Valley at home this Friday and then against Pittsburg, on the road, Saturday November 7th, this team will have gone undefeated and assured itself a place on my list at the museum. With a decent playoff run in North Coast Division 1 Playoffs this team could become the number 1 team of all time. We are talking about nearly 100 years of football. I am so thankful that I heard about this team during the summer. I was ready when the season got underway. Want to know more? Check out the maxprep website.
