Bagels and BBQ and Boardwalk; Oh My! I have always loved food and I've got a pretty good appetite. Growing up in the South, often produces that "grab the first piece of chicken before someone beats you to it" mentality. I think it comes from having big families and lots of relatives. But, even I "bit off more than I could chew" on Saturday, while enjoying the Brentwood Restaurant Tour. There were eight restaurants on the lineup and having only been to Brentwood once or twice, all but one of them were new to me and I was pleasantly surprised. Our tour began at the heart of Brentwood, Pee Wee Muldoon's Bar & Grill, where we were greeted by our host, Jon Kondra, who offered us steaming hot bowls of chowder. The chowder was a potent concoction, tasting like a combination of clam chowder and corn chowder. It was served with slices of sourdough and French bread and followed by the most scrumptious pieces of "mini-cheesecake" desserts you can imagine. Pee Wee's has a rather cozy motif, similar to Applebee's with the sports theme dominant throughout. Jon Kondra was on the tour last year as well and talked about the growth of the community in Brentwood. According to Kondra, there were 2,500 people in the town of Brentwood ten years ago but now, he estimates the population to be somewhere in the arena of 38,000 people. Said Jon, "The biggest reason we do it (the tour), is for all the new people moving into this area." He continued, "Meeting new people and seeing new faces, is the best part of doing the tour." |
