Tri Delta Transit Team wins "Best of the Best" Grand Prize. Ê Tri Delta Transit of Antioch, California won the prestigious 28th International "Best of the Best" competition held in conjunction with the American Public Transportation Association's Annual Meeting.
Ê Gilbert Castro earned first place in the operator competition and Kevin Moody, Frank Garcia, Rich Babcock and Bill Luckhurst took sixth place in the maintenance competition, garnering enough points for the Tri Delta Transit team to win the overall Grand Prize.ÊÊ This honor, recognizing the men and women who keep North America's bus systems safe, is given to the operator and maintenance team that has the highest score of all bus transit systems in this year's competition.Ê This is the first time in the history of this competition that a small operator has claimed this victory over much larger operators in North America.Ê Second place in the overall competition went to Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority from Los Angeles, California and third place went to King County Department of Transportation from Seattle, Washington.
Ê Ê The operators' competition measured professional skills including bus operation, knowledge of safety regulations, bus equipment, and bus right-of-way rules and procedures.Ê In the maintenance competition mechanics are judged on their ability to trouble-shoot maintenance problems.
Ê The roadeo is designed to encourage excellence and professionalism in bus transit operations. A total of 100 teams comprised of more than 200 competitors from North America's finest bus transit systems participated.Ê The competition was held September 27th, at the Utah Transit Authority's Murray Central Station parking lot.

"Editors note" I've had the pleasure of meeting many of the Tri Delta Drivers who serve the eastcounty. I can say "I have never met a driver with a bad attitude" not even once!
