A lttle more than a year ago I was ranting and raving about this social networking stuff Feb 2009.
I was resisting, I didn't want to have to deal with "requests" from family, friends and strangers
to join something I knew little about. I knew there was some value. I knew it was going to require effort.
What I didn't know was which ones to join? Fast forward to June 18th, that's when Janice R.L,
a SPOTLIGHT reader in Byron, started the EastCountyLive.com SPOTLIGHT TWITTER page (because
she knew there should be one). How could I thumb my nose up at this? Here's someone I had
never met (we have since had lunch) investing her time to get me started in the social
media wave. It's pretty clear that TWITTER and FACEBOOK are leading the way so these
are the ones to get started with. Feeling a bit more confident now, from my TWITTER
experience, on Monday, August 16th, I opened a Facebook page all by myself.
Yes, it's frustrating having to learn something new. Yes you waste alot of time trying
to do something that should be so simple. Yes, you get mad and want to chuck the
whole $%#& thing out the window. But, it's then, that you remember why you do this.
You're interacting with family, friends and helping others. That's why I do it.
