My friend Les Wilcox was in town and stopped by for a visit. We went to Mac's Old House for dinner. He graduated with me from Antioch High School in 1969. He taught me what little I know about music. After dinner we were watching THE VOICE.. Les has a very good ear for music. He would say things like "ooh that hurts my ear" or "that singer is off tempo."  In this episode two artists sang against each other with the artist "captain" choosing one of the contestants to be part of their team (the other is eliminated from the contest). He correctly guessed which singer the professional entertainer would choose, like 9 out of 10 times, and he wants a instant replay on the one he didn't pick. It was actually quite impressive that he could do this. To me all the contestants were good. He gave me a tip on how to improve my ear. He says to whistle to every song I hear on the radio, etc., and that will improve my ear. Thanks Les.

Yes I'll work with your flyers. But remember you are just barely touching the tip of the iceberg. When you list your event on the Eastcountylive.com Community Calendar the TEXT for your event is being indexed by all the search engines. Search engines only see a photo they don't read. What you want is #1st page position on every laptop, desktop, tablet and mobile phone. Flyers look nice in a magazine, newspaper, or as a poster on a popular door but they are only slightly useful on the web. I'm happy to show you how to do it right. Yes I love your flyers but let's do it right the time is worth it!

Restaurant Tip #1

Take a experienced server out for a meal and LISTEN.

I have never been a server or been married to one. But recently I had a meal with one. She asked our server to do things I would never ask a server to do (a) split two appetizers into one (b) two salad dressings on the side with an extra plate please, etc.,. They say it directly, matter of factly, friendly and you know the server is OK with it because they smile and say "Coming Right Up." You can learn a lot if you listen.

Breakfast at the Bridgehead Cafe, Antioch

I take Les to all the best places when he comes to town. He's eating the chicken fried steak breakfast. I heard recently that the number #1 meal in America, at sit down restaurants is...Fried Chicken. I was shocked when I heard that. I have never ordered Fried Chicken (or chicken fried steak) in a restaurant in my life but the Bridghead Cafe sells all-you-can-eat fried chicken Fri, Sat & Sun @ $12.95.

Brentwood Restaurant Tour Saturday May 4th

Mexican Coffee

I teased this photo the other day, on Facebook, to see if anyone recognized the drink and where I was. The correct answer is, drum roll please... La Pinata in Pittsburg. It's like Keoke Coffee except they use tequila instead of brandy with Kahlua & Cream. Very nice!

One of My Favorite Under $5 Appetizers

My friend Jeanette has an expression "I'm nobody" well I'm borrowing it now "I'm nobody either" but this is one of my favorite snacks... Fish Tacos at Schooner's Grille & Brewery in Antioch. I like the hot crunch of the breading on the fish against the cold tangy sweet cole slaw and pico de gallo.
