Golden Follies

Golden Follies Show Sunday July 10th

El Campanil Theatre, Antioch

My Oakley cigar buddy Hurtis Mixon sent me an update on new plans for Waldie Plaza. The city should have done this 40 years ago. BEFORE people and businesses left and went south. No details about funding or any completion dates mentioned so I am not holding my breath.

Unofficial survey results. The perception (too many) is that downtown Antioch is unsafe. I promised to do an informal survey. Yesterday, I talked to nearly 50 downtown business owners. These people go to work everyday on 2nd St., and on G Streets. Who would know more about what goes on down there on a minute-to-minute basis? I asked them if they felt safe?

Three people stated they had experienced recent trouble. Same kind of trouble that happens everywhere. Same trouble that has happened since the dawn of mankind. I'm pleased to report, the general consensus, from the people that are there everyday, "THEY FEEL SAFE." Yeah! I don't go downtown much. I go to the Beer Garden, Riverview Restaurant, Marina and the El Campanil Theater. I have also visited the second hand stores. I just need more reasons to go there.

Get over your fears and walk around downtown. You'll feel better. There is a summer concert season starting Saturday. A $1 store and a new restaurant will be opening soon. There is also a RIVERTOWN WALK event coming up with wine! Bottom line? Everything is cool in downtown Antioch. So grab mom, your kids, a camera and take a walk downtown. Who knows you may get lucky and see one of those big cargo ships motoring down the San Joaquin.
